Nothing has officially expanded its smartphone portfolio in India with the launch of the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, the successor to the earlier Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. The new device brings several upgrades across display technology, performance, camera capabilities, and design while continuing the brand’s signature transparent aesthetic and Glyph lighting concept.

Positioned as a powerful mid-to-premium smartphone, the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro features a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a fast 144Hz refresh rate, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, a versatile camera setup with periscope zoom, and a long-lasting 5400mAh battery. The smartphone also introduces an enhanced Glyph Matrix lighting system designed to deliver richer notifications and interactive experiences.

The device starts at Rs. 39,999 in India and will be available through major online and offline retailers.

Display and Performance

One of the major highlights of the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro is its large 6.83-inch 1.5K flexible AMOLED display. The screen supports an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 30Hz to 144Hz, ensuring smoother animations, responsive gaming, and efficient power consumption.

The display also offers:

HDR10+ support for enhanced video quality

10-bit color depth for improved color accuracy

Up to 5000 nits peak brightness, making the screen easily visible even in bright outdoor environments

Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection for improved durability

Powering the smartphone is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, a 4nm chipset designed to deliver a balance of high performance and power efficiency. The processor is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and faster app loading times.

To maintain stable performance during heavy workloads such as gaming or video recording, the phone integrates a 5300mm² vapour chamber cooling system. According to the company, the device supports BGMI gameplay at 120Hz and PUBG at 90Hz, making it a capable option for mobile gamers.

Software and User Experience

The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro runs on Android 16 with the company’s custom Nothing OS 4.1 on top.

Nothing has committed to three major Android OS updates along with six years of security updates, ensuring long-term software support for users.

The device retains the brand’s Essential Key, which works with the Essential Space feature, allowing users to quickly access personalized shortcuts, tools, and smart features.

Glyph Matrix Lighting System

A defining feature of Nothing smartphones is the Glyph interface, and the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro takes it a step further with the new Glyph Matrix system.

This updated lighting interface includes 137 mini-LEDs arranged in a matrix layout. Despite using fewer lights than previous models, it covers 57% more area and delivers 100% higher brightness, reaching around 3000 nits.

The Glyph Matrix is designed to provide more detailed and visually appealing notifications, and it also supports interactive features called Glyph Toys, including:

Battery indicator

Timer

Digital clock

Solar Path visualization

Glyph Mirror

These features can also be integrated with the Always-On Display (AOD) experience, making notifications and information more dynamic and interactive.

Camera System

The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro offers a versatile triple-camera setup designed for photography enthusiasts.

The rear camera system includes:

50MP main camera with Sony LYT700c sensor and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS)

8MP ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view

50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom, OIS, and up to 140x hybrid zoom

According to Nothing, this periscope camera delivers the longest zoom capability ever featured on a Nothing smartphone, making it one of the most advanced camera setups in its segment.

For selfies and video calls, the phone features a 32MP front-facing camera, capable of recording 4K video at up to 30fps.

Premium Design and Build Quality

The Nothing Phone (4a) Pro continues the brand’s iconic transparent design language while introducing a refined structure.

Key design highlights include:

Full-metal aluminium frame for enhanced durability

Slim 7.95mm profile

Distinct camera bar housing the Glyph Matrix

Corning Gorilla Glass 7i back protection

The device also comes with IP65 dust and splash resistance, providing improved protection against environmental elements.

Despite packing powerful hardware and a large battery, the phone maintains a relatively manageable weight of 210 grams.

Battery and Charging

Battery life is another major improvement in the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro.

The Indian variant features a 5400mAh battery, which is larger than its predecessor. The global version includes a slightly smaller 5080mAh battery.

The phone supports 50W wired fast charging, which can charge the battery up to 60% in around 30 minutes. However, the device does not include wireless charging support.

Nothing claims that the battery is designed to retain over 90% of its capacity after 1,200 charging cycles, translating to more than three years of daily charging usage.
