Xiaomi’s Supplier Dixon to Inaugurate Massive Smartphone Manufacturing Plant in Delhi to Support ‘Make in India

Dixon Technologies India, a major supplier to Xiaomi Inc., is poised to open an expansive smartphone manufacturing facility on the outskirts of New Delhi later this month. This move is part of India’s “Make in India” campaign, encouraging local production and reducing reliance on imports. Dixon will invest over Rs 400 crore ($48.2 million) in this facility over the next three years, with a primary focus on manufacturing Xiaomi smartphones.

This initiative aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to promote localization in the technology industry. Xiaomi, a leading player in the Indian smartphone market, has shifted its manufacturing partnership from previous suppliers, such as Foxconn Technology Group’s Bharat FIH and China’s DBG Technology Co., to Dixon Technologies. This transition reflects the changing dynamics of India’s smartphone market, where the government is pushing global tech giants to produce their devices domestically.

Xiaomi’s collaboration with Dixon Technologies is part of a broader strategy to embrace India’s vision for economic growth and self-sufficiency. By manufacturing more products locally, Xiaomi aims to reduce its dependence on imports from China, making its offerings more affordable and accessible to Indian consumers.

In addition to smartphones, Xiaomi has inked deals with Indian companies like Optiemus Electronics Ltd. to manufacture products like Bluetooth neckband earphones locally. This approach allows Xiaomi to increase its local manufacturing capabilities, meet growing demand, and contribute to India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub.

As India continues to evolve into the world’s second-largest smartphone market, global technology firms are eager to establish a strong presence. Xiaomi, which faced challenges that led to increased regulatory scrutiny and heightened competition, is now on a path to regain its market leadership. The company’s strategy includes producing locally, expanding its retail network, and sourcing more components from Indian manufacturers.

Xiaomi’s investment in a new manufacturing facility in Delhi underscores its commitment to revitalizing its position in the Indian smartphone market and embracing the “Make in India” movement. This shift not only fuels economic growth but also empowers Indian consumers by providing access to high-quality products at competitive prices.

Xiaomi’s partnerships with Dixon Technologies and other Indian manufacturers are testament to the company’s determination to thrive in India’s fiercely competitive smartphone market while contributing to the nation’s vision of becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse.
