JioHotstar Officially Launches in India: Merges JioCinema & Disney+ Hotstar with New Plans & Offers

Jio has officially rebranded Disney+ Hotstar as JioHotstar, bringing together content from JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar into a single streaming platform. This transition provides users access to an extensive collection of Hollywood and Indian entertainment, including exclusive content from Disney, HBO, Peacock, Paramount+, Marvel, and Pixar. Existing JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar users can continue using their subscriptions seamlessly with updated plans under JioHotstar.

JioHotstar Officially Launched in India

The JioHotstar app and website have now replaced Disney+ Hotstar following months of speculation.

This move follows the Disney, Reliance, and Viacom18 merger, announced in November 2023, which aimed to consolidate streaming services.

JioCinema, previously a standalone streaming service, is now integrated with JioHotstar.

Users will continue to enjoy premium Hollywood and Indian entertainment under a single platform.

A new content discovery feature called ‘Sparks’ has been introduced, featuring popular Indian digital creators.

Despite this transformation, JioHotstar hasn’t launched as a new app; instead, the Disney+ Hotstar app and website have been rebranded with JioHotstar’s identity. Meanwhile, the JioCinema app still exists, but users are now redirected to JioHotstar for streaming.

JioHotstar offers three subscription tiers, catering to different user preferences:

Devices: 4 devices (TV, laptop, and mobile)

Streaming Quality: 4K + Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos

Additional Perks

All plans include live sports (with ads), regional and international shows, movies, originals, and kids’ content.

JioHotstar is offering a ₹150 discount on the Premium plan.

Subscribers of Super and Premium plans will receive free Swiggy One Lite membership for a year and Spotify Premium for four months.

These offers currently appear for existing Disney+ Hotstar users, but availability for all new subscribers is yet to be confirmed.

What This Means for Existing Subscribers

Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema users will automatically transition to JioHotstar with no need for a new subscription.

While content access remains the same, reports suggest that auto-renewals have been paused, though further details are awaited.

Users can log in with their existing credentials to access JioHotstar.

Final Thoughts

The launch of JioHotstar marks a major shift in India’s streaming industry, combining two major platforms into one. With premium Hollywood and Indian content, live sports, and additional benefits, JioHotstar aims to be the go-to streaming service for Indian viewers. Whether you are a casual mobile streamer or a hardcore entertainment enthusiast, JioHotstar offers plans for all types of users. The success of this rebranding will depend on its execution and how well it retains existing users while attracting new subscribers.
