India’s traditional PC market — including desktops, notebooks, and workstations — grew 3.0% year-over-year (YoY) in the second quarter of 2025 (2Q25), with shipments reaching 3.5 million units, according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. This marks the eighth consecutive quarter of growth, highlighting stable demand across the country.
Category-Wise Market Trends in Q2 2025
Notebooks: Still the most popular category, notebooks registered 3.0% YoY growth, supported by rising enterprise demand and affordable options for consumers.
Desktops: Shipments inched up by 0.2% YoY, maintaining steady but modest growth.
Workstations: The standout performer, recording a massive 37.0% YoY surge, reflecting strong adoption across industries requiring high-performance systems.
Despite overall gains, premium notebooks (priced above US$1,000) faced a slowdown, declining 6.9% YoY in Q2 2025 and 0.5% YoY in H1 2025, as vendors shifted focus toward budget-friendly models to capture a wider market.
AI Notebooks Fuel Growth Momentum
One of the most significant highlights was the surge in AI-enabled notebooks, which grew 145.2% YoY in the first half of 2025. Interestingly, basic AI notebooks accounted for 88.1% of total AI shipments, showing that entry-level AI adoption is leading the market.
This trend indicates that AI integration is no longer a premium-only feature but is gradually becoming a mainstream offering across different price points.
Commercial Market Leads the Way
The commercial PC segment emerged as the key driver of growth, expanding 9.5% YoY in Q2 2025. Enterprise demand surged 21.2% YoY in the quarter and 26.4% YoY in H1 2025, powered by Windows refresh cycles and increased corporate IT spending.
On the other hand, the consumer segment posted a 3.9% YoY decline, mainly due to inventory clearance and supply bottlenecks. Despite steady demand across online and offline channels, vendors faced challenges with aging stock and delayed shipments.
The e-tail channel, however, remained strong, growing 1.6% YoY in Q2 2025 and 11.7% YoY in H1 2025, reflecting consumers’ continued preference for online purchases.
Vendor-Wise Market Performance
IDC’s report highlights the performance of the top five PC vendors in India for Q2 2025:
HP Inc.:
Maintained leadership with a 30.8% market share, driven by strong commercial shipments (35% from enterprise PCs). However, consumer shipments dipped 16.8% YoY due to channel inventory adjustments.
Lenovo:
Secured 20.3% share, showing 9.8% YoY growth in consumer notebooks (led by gaming models and e-tail sales) and a 26.4% rise in commercial demand.
Acer Group:
Held 14.8% share, with consumer growth driven by budget-friendly PCs. The commercial segment declined 11.8% YoY due to weaker government orders.
Dell Technologies:
Captured 11.3% share, with its commercial business growing 9.8% YoY, while consumer shipments dipped to 2% because of billing delays.
ASUS:
Accounted for 7.7% share, posting 12.8% YoY growth in consumer notebooks, especially gaming models, and a 7.8% YoY rise in commercial PCs.
Market Outlook for 2H 2025
According to Navkendar Singh, Associate VP, Devices Research, IDC India, South Asia & ANZ, the momentum of Windows refresh cycles will continue to drive enterprise demand.
He also cautioned that US tariffs could impact spending but emphasized that government projects like ELCOT, festive sales, and rising demand for gaming and AI-powered PCs will further fuel growth in the second half of 2025.
IDC expects robust consumer growth supported by etail promotions and festive season demand, alongside strong commercial procurement in the coming quarters.
