IDC Report: India’s PC Market Achieves Highest-Ever Q3 Shipments; AI PC Demand Surges 126% YoY

 

India’s traditional PC market continues its strong upward trajectory, registering 10.1% year-over-year (YoY) growth in Q3 2025, according to the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. With 4.9 million units shipped, the market has achieved its highest quarterly performance ever, surpassing the 4.5 million units recorded in Q3 2024.

 

This extraordinary expansion reflects increasing consumer demand, enterprise refresh cycles, the surge of AI-enabled devices, and a highly competitive market environment.

 

Strong Growth Across All PC Categories

The Indian PC landscape saw significant momentum across all major device categories:

 

Notebooks: Up 9.5% YoY, continuing to dominate overall shipments

Desktops: Grew 11.6% YoY, supported by government and enterprise orders

Workstations: Achieved the highest rise at 14.2% YoY, driven by demand for high-performance systems

 

Premium notebooks (priced above USD 1,000) also saw 8.5% YoY growth, as both consumers and enterprises gravitated toward more powerful, productivity-focused devices.

 

AI PCs: The Fastest-Growing Category

AI-enabled notebooks demonstrated exponential growth:

 

+126.5% YoY growth

Basic AI notebooks accounted for 85.9% of total AI notebook shipments

Next-gen AI notebooks crossed 100,000 units shipped for the first time in a single quarter

 

Strong e-commerce discounts and cashback schemes played a critical role in this acceleration.

 

Consumer & Commercial Segments: Record-Setting Demand

Commercial Market Growth: +11.4% YoY

The commercial PC segment witnessed robust growth, supported by:

 

Enterprise refresh cycles

Increasing demand among SMBs

 

SMBs: +18.8% YoY

Small businesses: +13.1% YoY

 

Consumer Market Hits All-Time High: 2.8 Million Units

The consumer segment set a new record, shipping 2.8 million units in Q3 2025.

 

Key drivers included:

 

Early festive season sales

Attractive online deals

Strong notebook sales via e-commerce

 

Notebooks in e-tail: 997,000 units (highest ever)

 

Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager at IDC India & South Asia, highlighted a shift in consumer behaviour — many buyers postponed back-to-school purchases to capitalize on deeper discounts during festival sales.

 

Market Share Leaders in Q3 2025

HP Inc. — 26.6% Share (Market Leader)

 

Dominated the commercial segment with 34.6% share

Strong enterprise and SMB demand

Consumer shipments dipped 10.4% YoY, partly due to the transition from Pavilion to the OmniBook lineup

 

Lenovo — 18% Share

 

Consumer segment grew 14.3% YoY thanks to festive promotions

Commercial segment grew 14.5% YoY

Led the Small Office (SO) market with 46.9% YoY growth

 

Acer Group — 15% Share

 

Strong consumer sales via entry-level notebook offerings

Commercial shipments grew 4.1% YoY

Led commercial desktops with 33.1% share

 

Dell Technologies — 14.6% Share

 

Consumer share at 10.3%, recovering after difficult quarters

Commercial segment grew 6.9% YoY, driven by enterprise orders

 

Asus — 10.2% Share

 

Balanced presence across online and offline retail

Consumer segment captured 15.9% share, ranking second behind HP

Commercial shipments exceeded 64,000 units, largely from SMBs

 

IDC Outlook: Strong Demand Expected Through H1 2026

Short-term fluctuations may arise due to high channel inventory and slight processor supply challenges

 

Consumer notebook demand is expected to remain strong through the first half of 2026

 

Enterprise-driven Windows refresh cycles will continue supporting commercial growth

 

SMB segment may see slight inventory adjustments
